We already have forsaken real relationships for the more convenient, more easily monitored and controlled internet relationships, so it isn't as far fetched as it used to be to imagine robots providing us with emotional interactions.
The implications are so Orwellian, that it verges on the paranoiac to logically think this through to its reasonable conclusion. For instance you can't give a social disease to a robot. You see where I'm going with this?
But for better or worse, this is the next step in the social isolation we continue to develop for our society and when they make the Michelle Pfeiffer robot, I will probably be standing in line.
